you have no friends, you won’t be missed

The Forty Ounce - Episode 3
The podcast where me and Daniel talk about pop music!
In this episode: the Grammys! What starts as a simple discussion of our favorite Grammy nominees quickly spins out of control when I launch into nearly-incoherent rant about Mumford and Sons. Later, Daniel rants in a much funnier way.
(This episode was supposed to be only about 20 minutes long, but it ended up being the longest yet! Whoops.)
The Forty Ounce - Episode 2
Daniel and I did another episode of the podcast in which we discuss pop music. In this episode, Daniel goes on a lengthy tirade against Toby Keith’s ‘Red Solo Cup’, and I muse on the potential future of Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger. Listen to it!
I’d never heard this extra-rockin’ live version of ‘Werewolves’ until today. I like it mostly because it’s nice to have a version I haven’t heard 1,000+ times, but some of the lyrical changes are pretty funny:
you hear him howlin’ around your kitchen door,
better not let him in
little old lady got mutilated late last night
Brian De Palma again
An all-new episode of me and Daniel Dockery’s pop-music podcast, The Forty Ounce! Topics this time include the Men In Black 3 theme song, the QUITE INAPPROPRIATELY TITLED “Best Song Ever”, and the new Justin Timberlake-influenced song by the J-Biebz himself.
Uh, we also talk for a long time about abusive relationships in this episode. We decided to talk about the horrendous and uncomfortable “Birthday Cake (Remix)” by Rihanna and Chris Brown, and as I found out while recording this episode, it is impossible to discuss that song outside the context of Chris Brown viciously beating Rihanna. I mean, unless you’re an idiot who for some reason thinks that it’s okay for Chris Brown and Rihanna to be on a song together. But you’re not an idiot, are you?
It may not have been the right topic for what is supposed to be a comedic podcast, but… it’s in there! So, enjoy.

The Forty Ounce - Episode 4
The podcast where me and Daniel talk about pop music!
In this episode: a podcast-length review of Pitbull’s album, Planet Pit! Devoting an entire podcast to Pitbull allows us to express our enthusiasm for him, but also our concerns with the fact that he is a rapper but doesn’t really enjoy rapping.
We ran into a problem with the site we were hosting on (they wanted me to pay more money, I didn’t want to pay more money) and now we are on a new site! So, that’s why it’s been a while since the last episode. We’re back! Hooray!

every time i see something like this, it makes me angry.
first of all, stop it. just stop it. you’re not impressing anybody by being all “outraged” about how much “worse” music is today than it was in the past.
second, you are comparing two entirely different genres. a jazz standard from the 1930’s should not be compared to an electro-pop song from 2010. they are songs with two entirely different goals. the goal of one of them is probably to make you dance. HINT: it is the one with Ludacris in it.
third, just because ONE SONG song that was originally written for A MUSICAL (you know, where people’s inner thoughts are spelled out in song? as in, that’s the basis of the entire genre) illustrates a romantic idea in a more eloquent way than ONE SONG written by an R&B performer does not mean that the entirety of music has somehow forever slipped from beautifully-written poetry into repetitive nonsense.
please, just stop.
