every time i see something like this, it makes me angry.
first of all, stop it. just stop it. you’re not impressing anybody by being all “outraged” about how much “worse” music is today than it was in the past.
second, you are comparing two entirely different genres. a jazz standard from the 1930’s should not be compared to an electro-pop song from 2010. they are songs with two entirely different goals. the goal of one of them is probably to make you dance. HINT: it is the one with Ludacris in it.
third, just because ONE SONG song that was originally written for A MUSICAL (you know, where people’s inner thoughts are spelled out in song? as in, that’s the basis of the entire genre) illustrates a romantic idea in a more eloquent way than ONE SONG written by an R&B performer does not mean that the entirety of music has somehow forever slipped from beautifully-written poetry into repetitive nonsense.
